The 18i8 and 6i6 are the latest additions to Focusrite's Scarlett range of USB audio interfaces.
With recording artists, producers and bands in mind, both of the new units feature Focusrite mic pres and 24/96 conversion.
The 18-in, eight-out Scarlett 18i8 (UK RRP £299.99) features four Focusrite mic pres and can record up to four line inputs at the same time, making it a viable option for recording an entire live band setup. With the onboard ADAT input, users can connect external mic preamps, such as the OctoPre MkII, for up to 12 mic inputs, and the unit also includes S/PDIF I/O.
Designed for recording on a smaller scale, the six-in, six-out Scarlett 6i6 (UK RRP £199.99) offers dual Focusrite mic pres along with a stereo line input, making it possible to capture, for example, two vocals, stereo piano and guitar at the same time.
Both models include Scarlett's signature rugged red unibody metal chassis and unique 'signal halo' LED rings around the input controls, indicating green for good levels and red for overload. Both also come with dual independent headphone outputs with level controls and a large main monitor knob.
In addition to Mac and Windows, the new Scarlett models are also compatible with iOS products, such as Apple's iPad, and are bundled with the Scarlett Plug-in Suite (Compression, Gating, EQ and Reverb for tracking and mixing), Ableton Live Lite, Loopmasters sample content and the Novation Bass Station analogue modelling synth plug-in.
