Dunkirk secures double sound Oscars win

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk picked up the accolades for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing at the 90th Academy Awards which took place on 4 March in Hollywood.

The film, based on true events on the Dunkirk beaches in 1940, earned rerecording mixer Gregg Landaker his fourth Oscar, following previous awards for The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Speed.

Supervising sound editor and designer Richard King also picked up his fourth award, previously winning for The Dark Knight, Inception and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.

Landaker, along with rerecording mixer Gary A. Rizzo (who previously won an Oscar for Inception) and production sound mixer Mark Weingarten, received the awards in the sound mixing category, while King and supervising music editor Alex Gibson earned awards for sound editing.

Dunkirk also won the Oscar in the Film Editing category.
