At this year's NAMM Show, Slate Digital is introducing its new VMS Virtual Microphone System - a hardware/software combination that gives users access to dozens of vintage and modern microphones.

The VMS comes with four components: The ML-1 and ML-2 microphones, VMS Dual Preamp Converter, and VMS Plugin Module.

The ML-1 is an extremely high-definition, linear, large diaphragm microphone designed for extremely precise transient reproduction, flat frequency response, and super wide bandwidth. It acts as a black canvas on which to impart the vibe of classic tube and condenser microphones. The capsule proximity effect precisely replicates the classic cardioid response of vintage large diaphragm mics.

The ML-2, like the ML-1, is designed to be high-definition, linear, low distortion, and clean. It can handle SPL of 135dB (making it ideal for instrument recording) and when combined with the VMS Plugin Module can model classic dynamic microphones, classic small diaphragm condensers, and even ribbon microphones.

The VMS Dual Preamp Converter is made to ensure the ML-1 and ML-2 avoid any colour when recorder to the workstation. It uses state-of-the-art amplifiers and converters to maintain a clean and linear signal, giving the VMS Plugin Module the opportunity to add the reproduction of classic microphones and preamps.

The final piece of the VMS system is the VMS Plugin Module, which turns the ultra clean signal from the hardware components into classic recreations of famous microphones and mic preamps. The module uses complex algorithms that are the result of Slate Digital's physical modelling process. The algorithms add zero latency so it is possible to record in realtime through the emulations on a new powerful native system.

You can see the VMS and more from Slate Digital at the NAMM show in Anaheim at Booth 6921.
