To celebrate the launch of its new evolution wireless D1 digital microphone series, Sennheiser has launched a competition to find the ultimate cover version of Chesney Hawkes' The One and Only.

The company is offering 50,000 Euros worth of prizes, with the best performer winning their very own professionally produced music video and audio recording of their cover, as well as D1 systems for their band.

Runner-up prizes include new D1 wireless microphone sets, while the first 20 valid entries will receive an evolution wireless D1 vocal set, and so too will the ten best covers as voted for by the public.

The overall winner and best runners-up will be selected by a jury of industry experts from among the 20 best entries shortlisted by a public vote. Jury members include The One and Only songwriter, Nik Kershaw; Anastasia Schoeck of Imagem Music; Sennheiser CEO Andreas Sennheiser; and Joel Cassady of Walk off the Earth – a band whose own covers are "the stuff of YouTube legend," according to Sennheiser.

Ingo Angres, marketing manager Live Performance and MI at Sennheiser, explained, “The evolution wireless D1 is all about setting your performance free and taking your talent to the next stage. It removes the hassle of complex set-ups and cables and delivers incredible sound quality. When there’s nothing in the way of your creativity, think what you could achieve. That’s the spirit behind this contest – we want to see people take a song everyone thinks they know and set themselves free to make something fresh and new.“

How to enter

Bands looking to take part simply need to interpret the song in their own unique style, record a video of a performance and upload it to YouTube, then visit www.sennheiser-D1.com to submit the entry. The competition runs until midnight on 10 May 2015.

From now until 19 May, visitors to the Sennheiser contest page can vote for their favourite cover version. The 20 performances with the most votes will be announced on 20 May and will go through to the final round, with the top ten receiving a D1 vocal set. The jury will then proceed to judge the entries on musical quality, unique style and authentic performance.

The winner, and the second and third places, will be revealed on 1 June.
