Audio Pro International’s commitment to showcasing the brightest young talent operating in the industry continues this week with the latest instalment of our Rising Stars section.
This week we speak to freelance engineer Tshari King…
Where did you study?
I studied at Alchemea College of Audio Engineering, from which I received a diploma for both their Studio and Live Sound Engineering courses. Prior to that I went to LAMDA where I studied Technical Theatre.
Which band/project are you currently working on?
I currently divide my time as a freelance live and studio engineer working on various projects from bands to radio dramas. When I’m not doing either of those I spend my time assisting the course coordinator for the Live Sound Diploma at Alchemea and also as part of the operations department at the Village Underground in Shoreditch.
Where are you based at the moment?
I am based in London and spend my time working in Shoreditch, Angel and anywhere in between.
Which audio console are you currently using? And how many channels?
What decision process was behind the choice of this console?
They are all popular consoles and the majority of engineers I work with are familiar with them.
Do you use any outboard effects/EQ, and if so, what are they used on and why?
Due to being a mostly digital girl, I find myself using built in FX and EQ’s (and plug-ins). If I have the option of ‘real’ outboard, I use Lexicon Reverbs and Klark-Technik GEQ’s.
What is your console of choice?
I have to stick with what I know, so I’d say the Avid Venue Profile, but if anyone wants to loan me a Midas Pro Series I wouldn’t object…
If you could tour with any band/artist who would it be?
I know and love some great bands – I would love to tour with some of my London locals like This Is Laura or Top Shelf Jazz, but if it were any band in the world, it would have to be the Mad Caddies.
