A number of the capital’s theatres closed last night in anticipation of further rioting, International Business Times has reported.
Among those to have temporarily closed are Battersea Arts Centre, The Churchill, The Roundhouse, The Union Theatre, Landor Theatre, Arcola Theatre and King's Head Theatre. However, the King’s Head theatre insisted that its decision was not made as a result of police warnings.
"It was not at the advice of the police that we closed but in the interest of the safety of our cast, staff and audience at the theatre," said a spokesperson for The King's Head theatre. "The safety of our cast, staff and audience are our priority, should we have opened last night we felt we may have been putting people at risk, therefore the decision has was made not to open. The show tonight is still planned to go ahead and will start at 7.15pm as usual."
Proud in Camden also closed, as did Electrowerkz, according to twitter announcements. Gigs at the White Heat Club, Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen and Favela Chic, as well as events at Café OTO and The Alibi were also cancelled, according to Twitter users.
