The popular German electro house duo, Digitalism, have taken the Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing system with them on their tour dates across the globe serving front-of-house and monitor duty.

Digitalism—founded in Hamburg in 2004—is composed of members Jens “Jence” Moelle and ?smail “Isi” Tüfekçi released their debut album, Idealism, in 2007 followed by I Love You Dude in 2011. Several of their tracks, for example “Pogo” (see video below), have been used in a variety of popular video game soundtracks as well as becoming popular with fans.

The pair has become particularly popular on the international festival circuit and has performed at the likes of Coachella, Lollapalooza and more.

Digitalism recently completed a large tour which saw them performing in America, Europe, Asia and as part of the international festival circuit.

Allen & heath’s iLive digital mixing console has accompanied them throughout and seemingly impressed them and their team.

“Early on in the tour, the band only carried one iLive system, to keep monitors consistent,” explained Digitalism’s FOH engineer, Daniel MacBean. “However, we were so impressed with how easy the system is to tour with and set up that we decided to get a second system in for FOH. It literally takes 30 seconds to set up at FOH: plug in Cat5, turn on power, and I'm good to go!”

Their rig included two Allen & Heath iDR-48 MixRacks and iLive-T80 Control Surfaces. These were connected using Dante. This provided a digital split between the FOH and monitor systems and provided additional recording facilities.

The A&H iDR-48 is a fixed format MixRack which includes 48 mic/line in ports and 24 XLR out ports. The A&H iLive-T80 surface features 20 faders.

“After ease of use, the most striking feature about iLive is the sound quality. It really is the most analogue-sounding digi board I've ever used,” added MacBean. “If you shut your eyes it genuinely sounds analogue, it has warmth that you can’t find in any other digital desk. Plus, the effects, reverbs especially, sound amazing with very little fiddling, and the EQ’s, dynamics in particular, are a definite cut above the competition.”
