Now in its 20th year, Berlin’s annual ‘Duftstars’ gala saw an Electro-Voice XLD compact line array at the core of a sound system put together by production company TSE AG.
Every year, the Fragrance Foundation Deutschland comes together to distinguish the fragrance of the year with the ‘Duftstars’ Award, and in recent years has risen to the status of one of the year’s most prestigious social gatherings.
Held at the Berlin Tempodrom, this year’s show saw a raft of stars in attendance, including Dita Von Teese, Werner Baldessarini, Cosma Shiva Hagen, Sonya Kraus, Jette Joop, Eva Padberg, and Jean Paul Gaultier, with TV star Barbara Schöneberger hosting the event.
The gala’s organisers employed the services of Berlin events service provider TSE AG, who provided a demonstration of their expertise and equipment at last year's ‘Duftstars’ gala. This year, the team, led by TSE project manager Daniel Maletz, handled proceedings once again.
The team began setting up the sound reinforcement system on Wednesday, May 2nd, and it soon became clear that the main PA would need to be compact, powerful, and flexible. For this reason an XLD system from Electro-Voice was selected. "We had already deployed the XLD successfully at a large number of events," explained TSE AG's sound engineer Alexander Lewin. "For the 'Duftstars' production, it had no serious competition, as it offered an opportunity to provide ideal coverage to all sections of the audience. A further plus is that visually it's a very unobtrusive system, which at an event like this, with so many VIPs in attendance and cameras everywhere, is a powerful argument.
"The XLD makes setting up and dismantling quick and uncomplicated," continued Lewin. "That left us all more time to get some sleep!"
In addition to the 26 Electro-Voice XLD array elements, the set-up for the 20th ‘Duftstars’ gala featured 12 Electro-Voice Xsubs, reinforcing the lowest frequencies, as well as 12 Electro-Voice TG7 and four Electro-Voice P3000 power amplifiers. Foldback was provided by eight Electro-Voice PX1122M monitors driven by CP4000S power amplifiers and the entire system controlled via IRIS-Net by a NetMax N8000.
