The 2015 Academy Award winners were revealed last night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, where the Oscars for Sound Editing and Sound Mixing went to American Sniper and Whiplash respectively.
The Whiplash audio team, consisting of Craig Mann, Ben Wilkins and Thomas Curley, had already won the BAFTA for Best Sound earlier this month, and went up against the American Sniper, Unbroken, Interstellar and Birdman sound crews for the Mixing Oscar.
Alan Robert Murray and Bub Asman, the pair behind American Sniper‘s Sound Editing win, were nominated alongside the Unbroken, Interstellar and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies sound editors.
Also honoured were musicians John Legend and Common, who took home Best Original Song for Glory from the film Selma, while Alexandre Desplat won Best Original Score for his work on The Grand Budapest Hotel. Desplat was also a nominee in the same category for his TheImitation Game score.
The March 2015 issue of Audio Media International will feature an interview with Ben Wilkins (Whiplash).
