New system is built around the 406A loudspeaker and 118SA subwoofer, designed for use in demanding live situations.

FBT Audio UK has made a new addition to its product range with the Vertus CLA active portable line array system.

Designed for use in demanding live situations, the new system is built around the CLA406A, a metal-braced, birch ply enclosed line array column housing four custom 6.5” (165mm) woofers and a 1.5” (35mm) large format B&C neodymium compression driver with 2.5” (64mm) voice coil – the combination operating across a frequency range of 65Hz-20kHz. The waveguide has a horizontal dispersion of 100° and 25° vertical, while the height dimension of the waveguide allows ‘excellent vertical control.’

Powering the CLA406A is a convection-cooled, die-cast aluminium Class-D amplifier module delivering 600 Watts for LF duties and 300 Watts for high frequencies. The unit is controlled by a DSP offering eight EQ presets, making for a ‘stylish, highly versatile, easy-to-use line array for demanding applications.’

The CLA406A is equipped with two aluminium handles with rubber inserts and 12 anchor points. Via optional hardware it is possible to couple two CLA406A with angles of 0° - 10° - 20°, with the adjacent waveguides set for long range operation, or with one cabinet above the other for short-medium distance applications.

Then there is the matching CLA118SA subwoofer, which features a birch plywood housing containing a B&C 18” (460mm) woofer in a bass reflex ported enclosure providing an extensive laminar airflow, minimising turbulence and power compression.

Driving the subwoofer is a naturally-cooled Class-D switchmode power amplifier rated at 1,200 Watts, achieving a frequency response of 33Hz-100Hz and delivering up to 138dB. The onboard DSP also offers functions including filtering, equalisation and protection.
